    Prologue: Easthaven
  • Your party will be greated by Hrothgar in the Winter's Cradle Tavern in Easthaven.
  • Leave the tavern and enter Pomab's Emporium, the next building to the east, and buy equipment for your party.
  • Speak to Hrothgar in his house on the west side of the tavern and he will invite you to join in the expedition he is planning to Kuldahar. Before his expedition is ready to set out, Hrothgar will ask you to search for a missing caravan from Caer-Dinival.
  • Cross the bridge in the southeast corner of town and go east to leave the area.
  • As you approach a cave, you will see an orc by a couple of empty wagons enter the cave. Follow the orc inside the cave.
  • Defeat the orcs inside the cave and kill their leader, a large ogre. Take the note from the ogre's body and leave the cave.
  • Return to Hrothgar in Easthaven and explain what you found. He will thank you and give you a list of supplies to give to Pomab.
  • Give the list to Pomab and return to Hrothgar when you are rested and prepared to continue your journey. You will set off with the expedition to Kuldahar.
  • In the Kuldahar pass, the expedition will be ambushed by frost giants who will start an avalanche.
  • A hermit will greet you on the other side of the avalanche in Kuldahar Pass and give you directions to Kuldahar.
  • Continue east through the pass and you will eventually reach Kuldahar.

    Chapter 1: The Vale of Shadows
  • At the entrance of Kuldahar you will be greeted by a young boy named Nate. He will be excited to see you but will become disappointed when you tell him you didn't come with an army.
  • Speak to the druid Arundel in the house by the three stones. He was expecting your arrival and will tell you about the disterbances that have been occuring in the area. He will ask you to investigate the Vale of Shadows.
  • By the bridge on the east side of town, Mirek will come running at your party followed by two tundra yetis. Defeat the Yetis and speak to Mirek to learn more about the Vale of Shadows.
  • Go east to the Vale of Shadows. In one of the tombs you will find the Gate Key.
  • Enter the tomb in the southeast corner of the area and defeat Therik, an Armored Skeleton. Take the Sanctum Key you find inside.
  • Enter Kresselack's tomb in the northeast corner of the Vale and use the Gate Key to open the first door (just have it in your inventory).
  • Enter the central chamber and open the door in the left wall with the Sanctum Key.
  • Take the Priest's Key from the coffin and open the right door. Take the Holy Symbol of Myrkul from to coffin and break the seal on the north door.
  • Defeat Mytos and find the Mausoleum Key. It is either on his body or in a coffin in a hidden room guarded by a mummy.
  • Take the right hallway and enter the door at the end to go to the second level.
  • Enter the center chamber and defeat all the enemies there. Use the Mausoleum Key to open the door to the northeast. Open the next door in the hallway and take the plain key from the room at the end.
  • Now return to the main chamber and open the door to the southeast. Use the plain key to open the next door and take the Black Wolf Talisman from the body at the end.
  • Return to the main chamber again and flip the switch on the pillar in the east end of the room to open the doors to the west that lead to the lowest level.
  • Go to the next area and defeat the undead guardians.
  • Speak to Kresselack in the back chamber and he will agree to tell you about the evil threatening Kuldahar if you kill a priestess of Auril for him. Agree to kill her and leave the tomb.
  • Enter Lysan's retreat near the center of the Vale of Shadows, just below the large statue. She will declare herself an enemy of the spirit in the tomb and of Kuldahar and will attack your party.
  • Once you have defeated Lysan, return to Kresselack in his tomb. He will allow you take what is in his sarcophagus but will tell that he doesn't know who is responsible for the troubles in the area. He only knows that is is not him, nor does the evil originate in the Vale.
  • Return to Arundel in Kuldahar to tell him what you have discoverd. He will ask you to retrieve the Heartstone gem which was stolen from the druids of Kuldahar.
  • Go east to the Temple of the Forgotten God. As you approach the temple, you we be approached by a Verbeeg named Red Toe who is fleeing the 'bad priests' in the temple.
  • Enter the temple and descend to the second level. When you enter the inner sanctum at the end, you will find that you are too late -- the heartstone gem has been stolen.
  • Pick up the vial of strange liquid from the body of a priest and return to Arundel in Kuldahar. Arundel will suggest you go to Dragon's Eye to find the thieves.
  • Leave Kuldahar and go east to Dragon's Eye.

    Chapter 2: Dragon's Eye
  • When you arrive at Dragon's Eye, you will first have to fight off some ice trolls.
  • Enter the cave and fight the Lizard King in the northeast corner of the first level. You will discover that the lizards were responsible for the disappearance of the villagers.
  • After you have defeated the Lizard King, go south and defeat the lizard men who are guarding the prisoners. A little girl in the southeast cell will thank you for rescuing them and your party will gain experience.
  • The path to the second level is at the back of the southwest most cell.
  • There are more villagers that you can rescue in the southwest corner of level two. The exit to the third level is in the southeast corner surrounded by trolls. You have to use fire to finish off the trolls.
  • On the third level, you will have to fight your way through several legions of Cold Wights and Blast Skeletons controlled from afar by a necromancer.
  • Presio, the necromancer controlling the undead, is in his chamber on the east side of the area. Defeat him and take his war journal from his belongings. It will list several of the major players in Icewind Dale and their allegiances.
  • Go north from Presio's chamber to find the exit to the fourth level. Beware of traps along the way.
  • On the fourth level, you will meet a number of innocent seeming Eldathyr priests. If you try to open a locked door or have a paladin speak to Albion near the entrance, you will discover that they are evil serpents and they will all attack you.
  • Take Albion's Key from his body and you will be able to open all the doors on the level.
  • Free the adventurers from Waterdeep from a cell near the northwest corner and they will aid you in your battles agaist the Yuan-ti.
  • In a chamber on the east side of the area, you will find the High Summoner who has been summoning enemies to attack you. Defeat him and the other Yuan-ti priests.
  • The exit to the fifth level is in the southeast corner.
  • At the beginning of the fifth level, you will meet an odd little girl who uses big words and is difficult to understand. You will see her several times on your way through the level.
  • Continue down the main passage and you will reach the throne room in the northeast corner.
  • The odd little girl will turn out to be Yxunomei and will attack your party. Defeat her and take the Heartstone Gem from her body.
  • Leave Dragon's Eye and return to Kuldahar. You will discover it has been attacked by strange giants.
  • Enter Arundel's House and you will find an evil shape changer discuised as Arundel. He will thank you for defeating his nemisis Yxunomei and will disappear.
  • Go upstairs and speak to Arundel. In his dying breath he will ask you to take the Heartstone Gem to the elf Larrel in the Severed Hand.
  • Leave Kuldahar and journey to the Severed Hand.

    Chapter 3: The Severed Hand
  • At the entrance to the Severed Hand, you will see a Larrel's Sending confonting a squirrel thinking it is one of the dwarves that betrayed the elves. It will cast a fireball spell at the squirrel and then walk away.
  • Enter the tower and climb up the 4th floor. Along the way you will have to fight many goblin and orc shades as well as undead.
  • On the 4th floor you will find shades of the elves who lived in the tower. You will find out a little about what happened to the elves.
  • From the 4th floor you will have access to the other towers that make up the fingers of the severed hand. To the south you will find Solonor Tower, Sheverash Tower to the east, and Corellon Tower to the northeast. To the west you will come across Labelas Tower but you will not be able to reach the higher levels. The path to Sehanine tower to the northeast is blocked by rubble.
  • Enter Sheverash Tower and on the third floor you will find a walkway to Lebelas tower.
  • Climb up Lebelas tower to the Astrolabe at the top. There you will find the great elf wizard Larrel. He will only mutter something about the Astrolabe when you speak to him, however.
  • Speak to Gelarith and he will tell you that the Astrolabe is broken and that he is trying to fix it.
  • In order to fix the Astrolabe, you must find four pieces of machinery scattered throughout the Severed Hand:
  • Give all the pieces of machinery to Gelarith at the top of Lebelas Tower and he will fix the Astrolabe.
  • Speak to Larrel and he will have regained his sanity. He will tell you the whole story of the fall of the elves. He will also use the Heartstone Gem which will reveal that the source of evil disturbing Kuldahar is somewhere in the Dwarven fortress of Dorn's Deep.
  • Either travel do Dorn's Deep yourself or allow Larrel to send you there.

    Chapter 4: Dorn's Deep
  • Defeat the Neo Orogs guarding Dorn's Deep and enter inside.
  • Cross the bridge in the southeast corner of the cavern to reach the next area. Along the way you will pass the giant statues of the elf and dwarf on their thrones that Larrel saw in the Heartstone Gem.
  • In the next area you will have to fight many drow and Neo Orogs. In the northwest corner of the area you will find an entrance into the Neo Orogs' cave.
  • Speak to the former Thay wizard Saablic Tan who was changed into an umber hulk. He will ask you to kill the Orog leader and return with his badge.
  • So south and confront Krilag, the Neo Orog leader. Read the note found on his body and take the badge.
  • Return to Saablic Tan with the badge and he will tell you that you will need five more similar badges.
  • Return to the previous area and enter the room with the round table and statues. Enter the secret door behind one of the center statues.
  • This secret room is a puzzle. There are three concentric circles each with different symbols. You have to step on the symbols matching the symbols on the round table in the previous room. If you step on an incorrect symbol, you will be zapped by lightning. Only use one character to solve this puzzle.
  • First step on the hammer and anvil symbol in the northeast part of the outer circle. Step on the X symbol on the south side of the room for the second circle. Finally, step on the two interlocking rings on the inner-most circle.
  • Return to the previous room and click on the hammer of the statue next to the secret door. The hammer will be lowered while the hammers on the other statues will be raised.
  • Return to the secret room and descend to the forge. Beware of the fireball trap at the bottom of the stairs.
  • Speak to Norlinor, the spirit of a priest of Moradin. He will tell you what has happened in Dorn's Deep and will ask you to defeat the liche who has taken residence in their cemetary. He will also tell you how to defeat the liche.
  • Enter into the Tiers of the Dead and attack Terikan, the liche. Once you have defeated it, take Terikan's key from one of the coffins behind it and enter into the Hall of Heroes.
  • Defeat the liche again and take Terikan's Phylactery from the coffin in the fourth tomb on the left.
  • Enter Jamoth's tomb, the second on the right, with the phylactery and it will disappear and Terikan will be defeated.
  • Return to the forge area and Norlinor will thank you for putting the dwarven spirits to rest. Take the Forge Key form the forge.
  • Return to the Hall of Heroes and use the forge key to open the door to Wyrm's Tooth Glacier.

    Chapter 5: Wyrm's Tooth Glacier
  • Enter the Frozen Temple in the center of the first area. Two Frost Salamander guards will take you to their leader Kerish.
  • Kerish will believe that you are spies from his master. He will tell you about the slaves that escaped and will let you wander the temple freely.
  • Desend to the lower level of the temple and speak to the slave Gareth. He will ask you to get the key from Kerish so that the slaves can escape.
  • Return to Kerish and ask him for the key. He will give it too you, but will warn you not to release the slaves.
  • Return to Gareth with the key and the slaves will escape. Pick up the dwarven engineering manual on the west side of the area that Soth left behind.
  • When you try to leave the temple, you will attacked by the Frost Salamanders.
  • Leave the temple and walk up to the bridge in the southwest. If you have the dwarven engineering manual, you will be able to repair the bridge, cross it, and enter the cavern on the other side.
  • Go east inside the frost giant cave and attack Joril and his bodyguards. Take the badge from Joril's body and leave the cave.
  • Enter the stairs in the northeast corner of the main glacier area. Enter the cave to the east to descend to the lower levels of Dorn's Deep.

    Chapter 6: Lower Dorn's Deep
  • In order to reach Poquelin's chamber in Lower Dorn's Deep, you need to find four more badges from his followers:
  • In the northern wall of the temple you will see a stairway leading up. In front of the stairway are 6 tiles in the floor. Once you have all six badges, click on each of the tiles. If it says 'LOCKED' for any of the tiles, then you do not yet have the appropriate badge.
  • Once you've unlocked all of the six tiles, ascend the stairway to Revered Brother Poquelin's chamber.
  • Poquelin will explain to you all his plans and will then attack you. Once you have fought him for a while, he will teleport away with a dimension door and your party will be teleported too.
  • Your party will appear in Easthaven which has been destroyed by Cyclopses.
  • Go to the southeast part of the town across the bridge to free the vilagers. Speak to Everard and he will tell you how to enter the crystal tower.
  • Enter the tower in the northwest part of town where the temple used to be and Everard will follow you in. He will tell you to find another entrance to the seal.
  • Climb up the stairs and continue to the next room. Defeat all of the Pomab's images and the crystal guards will fall as well.
  • Climb to the top of the tower and enter the mirror to teleport to the seal.
  • Poquelin will open the seal, but Everard will arrive and sacrifice himself to reseal the portal. Poquelin will change to his true form and attack you party. Beware of the many traps on the floor. Once you finally defeat Poquelin, peace will return to Icewind Dale.
