Hobbiton

  • You begin in Hobbiton in the Shire. Speak to Samwise Gamgee in the northeast corner of the town and he will tell you that he cannot join you until he finds his gaffer's glasses.
  • Leave the town through the north exit. You will find Pippin Took in the northeast corner of this area. He will join you after you have killed the wolves.
  • Return to Hobbiton and then leave through the west exit. This area has three small caves and one large cave with four entrances.
  • In the large cave, find the Glasses, the Green Gateway Gem, and the Magic Fern. Look at the map for their exact locations.
  • In one of the small caves, you will find an old man. Give him the Magic Fern for the Violet Gateway Gem.
  • Return to Hobbiton and speak to Sam. When he sees that you have the glasses, he will join you.
  • Give the Eye Glasses to the Gaffer. He will give you the gate key in return.
  • Use the Gate Key on the gate on the east side of Hobbiton to open it.

    The Ferry

  • Do no cross the Brandywine Bridge. Shadow wraiths will attack you on the other side and there is no way to defeat them. Instead go south.
  • Go south and then east and you will find Farmor Maggot. Defeat the goblins that are attacking his farm and he will give you a note to give to the ferryman so that he will take you across the river. Farmer Maggot will tell you that you will still need an oar to get across and will promise to lend you his if you get his Jar of Honey back from Ted Sandyman.
  • Return to the west and speak to Ted Sandyman who is in the long narrow area. He will only give you the Jar of Honey if you bring his a bottle of Shire Juice.
  • You can find a Bottle of Shire Juice on the east side of the area to the north. Give it to Ted Sandyman and he will tell you that he dropped the Honey just outside of Farmer Maggot's farm.
  • Go to the area to the east and you will find the Jar of Honey. Give it to Farmer Maggot and he will give you his Boat Oar.
  • Show Farmor Maggot's note to the ferryman to the south and give him the Boat Oar and he will take you across the river.

    The Old Forest

  • In the next area east of the ferry, you will find Gildor Inglorion on the east side of the area. He will give you the Purple Gateway Gem if you found the first two in the Shire.
  • Continue east and you will meet Merry Brandybuck. He will give you a Note from Gandalf and will join your party. Speak to the elves to the south for some valuable information.
  • In the southeast corner of the next area to the east, you will find the first Lost Amulet that the elves asked you to find.
  • Continue east and then north and speak to Sorianrand. He will give you the Key to Bree.
  • Return south and then go east twice more. If you read the letter near the east side of this area, your friends will be eaten by Old Man Willow. Show the letter to Tom Bombadil outside of his home to the north and he will free your friends when you return to Old Man Willow. Make sure you pick up the Elvish Book on the west side of the area.
  • Go east again to enter the Barrow Downs.

    The Barrow Downs

  • Enter the first cave in front of you and go the left to find the first Tomb Key. Continue all the way to the right and take the fourth exit.
  • Continue east to the next area after you leave the first cave.
  • Enter the second cave through an entrance to the north. You will find an amulet at other end of the tunnel.
  • Return to the second area and use the Tomb Key on the locked door near the northeast corner of the area.
  • Continue through the cave to get to the third area.
  • Take another Tomb Key from the cave to the northeast and then go east to the next area.
  • Use the key to open the door to the cave. Use another key found in this cave to open the locked door in this cave.
  • Take the Tomb Key from the cave in the northeast corner of the area at the other end of the cave and then return to the fourth area.
  • Go east and then enter the area to the south.
  • Use your tomb key to open the door near the southwest corner to enter the passage. You will find the Yellow Gateway Gem in the area at the other end of the tunnel.
  • Return to the previous area and take the tomb key in the cave on the east side of the area.
  • Head north, then east, then north again, and then west. You will find another key in the cave near the northwest corner of this area.
  • Enter the area to the northwest and use one of your tomb keys to open the door to the passage.
  • After you exit the other end of the tunnel, enter the area to the north. You will find a Lost Amulet in the area to the west and the Red Gateway Gem in the area to the east.
  • Return to area 24 and go east to the next area.
  • Take the tomb key from inside the cave on the east side of this area and then go east again.
  • Use one of your tomb keys to open the door in the northeast corner of this area and enter the tunnel.
  • At the other end of the tunnel you will find yourself in the final area of the Barrow Downs. Use your final tomb key to open the gate and leave the Barrow Downs.

    Bree

  • Head north from the Barrow Downs into Bree. Show the Gate Keeper both the Key to Bree and Gandalf's Note and he will open the gate for you.
  • In the middle of Bree you will find Strider. He will tell you to bring him Athelas.
  • Speak to the Weapons Master and he will give all of your characters Troll Daggers for 45 gold. The Armor Master will give you all Chain Armor for the same price.
  • Leave Bree and go east two areas to the river. On the river band on the south side of the area you will find some Athelas Minor.
  • Return to Bree and show Strider the Athelas. He will take over as leader of your party.

    The Troll Shaws

  • Return to the River and continue over the bridge to the next area.
  • Hit the large stone in the northeast corner of the area to reveal an entrance to a cave.
  • There are many important items in this cave that you need to find including the last three Lost Amulets, the Color Scroll, the Keystone Scroll, the Jeweled Ring, and several more powerful weapons and armor. Use my map to find their locations.
  • When you leave the cave, you will find yourself in the Troll Shaws.
  • Go to the area to the east to find Legolas' Long Bow in the northeast corner. Then enter the area to the west to find Legolas in the northwest corner. He will join you when you show him his bow.
  • Head south to leave the Troll Shaws and then return to Bree. Give the Jeweled Ring you found in the Troll Shaws Cave to Jane near the city entrance and she will give you the Gateway Keystone in return.

    Rivendell

  • Leave Bree and keep going east until you reach Rivendell.
  • Speak to Elrond near the center of Rivendell and he will tell you to bring the Ring through Moria to Lothlorien where it will be safe. Legolas will leave your party at this time.
  • Speak to Gandalf standing next to Elrond. Show him the Elvish Book and the Gateway Keystone and he will agree to open the gates to Moria for you.
  • Although Boromir won't join your group, speak to him on the east side of Rivendell and he will give you the Horn of Boromir which can be used to scare enemies away.
  • Bilbo in the southeast corner of Rivendell will give Frodo both his weapon Sting and some Mithril Mail as well as his diary.
  • Head south out of Rivendell and you will meet Gimli just outside. This dwarf will join your group.
  • Keep going south for several areas and evenutally you will find the wizard Drexle blocking the passage to the east. He will ask you to retrieve his Orb for him.
  • Backtrack to Area 41 and you will find a Magic Rock near the center of the area hidden behind a tree.
  • Go south again a couple of areas and use the Magic Rock on the stone Troll to return him to normal. Defeat the troll and you will find the Orb of Drexle.
  • Return to Drexle and give him his orb and he will stand aside. Go east and you will find the entrance to Moria.

    Moria

  • Find both the Scroll of Floi and a Moria Key near the northeast part of the 1st Moria area.
  • Keep going west until you find a locked door and use the Moria Key to open the door.
  • Beyond the locked door, go northwest to find another Moria Key.
  • Return to the door that was locked and go east to find another locked door. Use the Moria Key on this door to open it.
  • In the next area, go north, and then use the Scroll of Floi on the locked door to the west.
  • Keep going west to find another key and return east.
  • Keep going east and then north again to find another locked door. This will open with the latest key you found.
  • From this new area, keep going west to reach the next area.
  • To the northwest you will find a locked door that you can't open yet. Go east, then north, then west to find the key.
  • Return to the door you couldn't open before and use this new key to open it. Behind, you will find the Scroll of Oin.
  • Go west and then north and open the locked door to the east using the Scroll of Oin.
  • In this next area you will find another Moria Key in the northeast corner.
  • Return to the previous area and use the key to open the door just south and east of you.
  • Go east and south to find another Moria Key. Use this key to open the locked door to the next area to the northeast.
  • Head north, then east, then north again to find the Book of Ages. Return south and go east to find a locked door that can be opened using the Book of Ages.
  • Continue east to find the final Moria Key.
  • Return to the previous area and use the key to open the locked door to the final area.
  • Speak to Legolas and Gandalf and they will both join you for the final battle.
  • Take the Book of Mazarbul and use it to open the locked door to the east.
  • To the north you will meet the Balrog, the final enemy of the game. He is a very difficult enemy and it may take some time to defeat him. Make sure to keep Aragorn and Frodo alive, because if either of them die, you will have to start the battle over again.
  • After you have defeated the Balrog, you will be able to cross the bridge across the chasm. Continue to the exit from Moria and the elven woods of Lothlorien.
